In 2000, MOE began a four-part study designed to lead the way to improving air quality for residents in the Clarkson area. The study approach combines science with community participation and support.
The Clarkson Airshed Study looked at how emissions from local industries, vehicles, residences and sources outside the study area contribute to air quality in the Clarkson area. This included identifying major sources of target pollutants and looking at the data from ambient air monitoring and air quality modeling.
The ministry is committed to improving air quality in the Clarkson-Oakville Airshed. To that end, we are establishing a task force.
The task force will report back by June 30, 2010 on a detailed action plan to improve air quality through the reduction of emissions form local industrial, vehicular and residential sources in the Clarkson-Oakville Airshed.
The action plan will include targets, timelines, strategies and reporting requirements.
A task force Chair will be announced in the near future.
Keeping the local community informed and involved is important to us. The task force will be supported by a Community Advisory Committee that will advise on the action plan. The ministry will continue to update you on what’s being done to address air quality in Clarkson, make studies and reports available, tell you about opportunities to participate and answer your questions.
