Environmental assessment (EA) is both a study and a planning process which evaluates the potential environmental effects and benefits of a project or undertaking on the environment. Before decisions are made about proceeding.
In Ontario, this process is defined by, and finds its authority in, the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA). The purpose of the EAA is to provide for the protection, conservation, and wise management of Ontario's environment.
