Class 7 Handout

Regular font size Large font size Extra large font size Print this page

Pesticide products with both non-cosmetic uses and cosmetic uses are listed in Class 7. Such products will only be allowed for non-cosmetic purposes. The vendor must give written information, approved by the Director, directly to purchasers at the time of purchase, informing them that only certain uses are legal. For example, a pesticide that can be used to control poison ivy cannot be used on patios or driveways to control weeds.

This information, which the ministry is calling the Class 7 handout, must be given to purchasers of Class 7 pesticides beginning April 22, 2009, the effective date of the ban.

The Class 7 handout can take the following forms, provided that Director-approved wording is used and provided that the information is handed to the customer at the time of purchase:

  • Vendors can choose to use a ministry supplied handout. The ministry will print and distribute the handout to retailers in pads of 100 with English on one side and French on the other. The size is 4.25 x 5.25 inches. The ministry will ship an initial quantity to retail head offices, and to licensed vendors. Vendors can expect to receive the handout before April 22, 2009. Once your copies are depleted, you can re-order from the ministry’s Public Information Centre (1-800-565-4923) or download it from this website to print your own copies.
  • Vendors can choose to incorporate the approved wording into cash register receipts.
  • Vendors can choose to deliver the information in another form, providing they obtain approval from the Director of the Ministry of the Environment’s Standards Development Branch (416-327-4638 or email sdb.coordinator.moe@ontario.ca). Note that it must be in a form that can be handed to the customer.
