Stakeholder Support for Legislation

These reforms to the Ontario Water Resources Acts are long overdue. These steps will move
Ontario and the Great Lakes Region away from destructive water wasting practices to sound
conservation practices. Living within the natural water budget given to us is crucial to sustaining
water resources for current and future generations.
Sarah Miller, Co-ordinator and Water Policy Researcher, Canadian Environmental Law Association

Molson is proud of our environmental record and we salute the Government of Ontario on this
proactive and balanced initiative that will help protect Ontario's water resources for generations
to come.
Ferg Devins, Vice President, Public Affairs, Molson Canada

Water conservation charges will ensure that commercial and industrial water takers who use
water for profit will now be contributing their share to Ontario’s management of our exceptional
water resources. Sustainable water management is essential as we look forward to a legacy of
well protected lakes rivers and groundwater for the future.
Dr. Rick Smith, Executive Director, Environmental Defence

With these legislative amendments, our premier and Minister Ramsay are continuing Ontario's
leadership role in protecting the Great Lakes for future generations.
Robert Wright, Senior Counsel, Sierra Legal Defence Fund

This proposed legislation is a good step forward for Ontario and for all who live in the Great
Lakes Basin.  It demonstrates positive leadership by the Province and reflects the importance of
protecting Ontario’s water resources sustainably for future generations.
Rick Findlay, Director of the Water Programme, Pollution Probe

Pollution Probe supports the need for a proposed phase-in of charges for high consumption water
takers in order to help protect Ontario’s water resources for future generations.  We need to
begin to reflect the value of the water resources we use, in the prices that we pay.
Rick Findlay, Director of the Water Programme, Pollution Probe

As the provider of safe drinking water, cities have a great interest in preserving, protecting, and
restoring the ecosystem health of the Great Lakes. This bi-national agreement is an important
first step in ensuring that all governments around the Great Lakes Basin work together to protect
this invaluable resource.
David Miller, Mayor, City of Toronto, and Chair of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
