Inspiration: To make a colourful expression of the different ways that we can help save the environment.

Grade 3/4 Art Contest Winner

Gloria (Yuliang) Fang – Grade 4, Denlow Public School, Toronto.
Title of artwork: SOS Help Earth
Inspiration: I've seen a lot of people harm the Earth by littering and causing climate change or global warming. So, to help the Earth and have fun, I decided to join the contest.

Grade 5/6 Art Contest Winner

Erin D’Souza – Grade 6, Bishop Scalabrini Catholic School, Mississauga.
Title of artwork: Everyday Things Make A Difference

Inspiration: Seeing that tiny things, such as recycling, can make a huge difference in saving our environment.

Title of artwork: Love the Earth like the apple of your eye
Inspiration - Together, each doing our part, we can all realize a common vision of a healthy environment. The Earth is in the eyes and hands of the beholder!

Innovation Award Art Winner

Flora Gao – Grade 6, Thomas Street Middle School, Mississauga.
Title of artwork: Think 3Rs
Inspiration: The idea came from what I learned about how the 3Rs could save the earth at school.

Inspiration:  After reading a short article in a newspaper about how much energy teens are putting into their clothes and the environmental implications of what seems like a harmless action.

Grade 10 Essay Contest Winner

Jeremy Shindman – York Memorial Collegiate Institute, Toronto.
Title of essay: Green, It Can Make Our World Seem Clean
Inspiration: Watching the degradation of the world around me and wanting to effect change.

Grade 11 Essay Contest Winner

Vladislav Ternovsky – Northview Heights Secondary School, Toronto.
Title of essay: Clean Air and Climate Change
Inspiration:  I was inspired through my past experiences at the Canada Wide Science Fair and the 2006 Shared Air Summit.

Grade 12 Essay Contest Winner

Nicole Lynn Peltier – Bawating Collegiate & Vocational High School, Sault Ste. Marie.
Title of essay: What I Can Do To Stop Climate Change
Inspiration: My essay is rational, realistic, and represents the fact that I love my family and the environment in which we live.

Title of essay: A Time For Change
Inspiration: I was inspired to write the essay after watching the movie "An Inconvenient Truth".

 

Secondary School Video Contest

Grade 9 Video Contest Winner

Title of video: Global Warming: Let’s Keep it in Perspective
Inspiration: My video was inspired by the lack of objective information on the subject of global warming and I felt the need to convey that there are two sides to every story.

Grade 10 Video Contest Winners

Joël Lallier and Tyler Bérubé – Cité des Jeunes, Opasatika & Kapuskasing.
Untitled.
Inspiration: Joël is a student who is greatly inspired by his environment. Living in an area of the province where forests are abundant, he is aware that all of this could disappear one day.  Tyler was inspired by Joël's video and composed the music for it.

Title of video: We Have No Choice
Inspiration: The movie "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore.

Sarah Schoones and Arthur Porte – Canterbury High School, Chesterville & Ottawa.
Title of video: Smarten Up
Inspiration: Our inspiration for this video was to be serious about environmental issues and yet light-hearted about the presentation. The hope was to grab attention through humour, and yet get the point across.

Innovation Award Video Winners

Gabriel Janakaraj and Yama Tiraeri – Grade 11, Henry Street High School, Whitby.
Title of video: We’re Only Guests
Inspiration: While attending global warming assembly in our school we had gained great knowledge in what can and might happen in the future. Many generations can face devastating weather temperatures and we did not want the world turning in a place where humans must be kept in indoor, climate-controlled conditions. We want to make a change it and prevent from happening before it’s too late.
