GOLF COURSE FINED $4,000 FOR TAKING TOO MUCH WATER

PETERBOROUGHA golf course facility has been fined $4,000 after pleading guilty to two violations under the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA).

R.T.W. Resorts Ltd. operates the Quarry Golf Course located at 1334 Yankee Line in the Town of Ennismore in the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield, County of Peterborough.

Following a ministry inspection in August 2006, it was determined that R.T.W. Resorts Ltd. was taking more water from a quarry pond on its golf course than was legally allowed.

A subsequent investigation by the ministry’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch resulted in R.T.W Resorts Ltd. being charged with violations of the Ontario Water Resources Act.

R.T.W. Resorts Ltd. pleaded guilty to two counts of taking more than at total of 50,000 litres of water per day from the quarry pond located on the property without a permit, contrary to s.34 (3) of the OWRA, and was fined $2,000 on each of two counts, plus a victim fine surcharge. R.T.W Resorts Ltd. was given one year to pay the fine.

Justice of the Peace J. Glover heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario, on February 26, 2007.
