TORONTO – Teresa Silva has been fined $15,000, plus a victim fine surcharge, after pleading guilty on 15 counts of providing false information to the Ministry of the Environment.
Ms. Silva was employed as an assistant manager at a driver and vehicle licensing office located in Toronto. This office is part of the private issuing network. Ms. Silva is no longer employed at the office.
The Court heard that Ms. Silva, who was also an assigned operator at the Vehicle Issuing Office, inputted false Drive Clean certificate numbers in order to complete transactions for vehicle renewals or transfers.
Ms. Silva was charged following an investigation by the Ministry of the Environment’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
Ms. Silva was found guilty of 15 counts of electronically submitting false information in data to the Ministry of the Environment, contrary to s. 184(2) of the Environmental Protection Act. Ms. Silva was fined $15,000 in total, plus a victim fine surcharge, and given 24 months to pay.
Justice of the Peace Cesar De Morais heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto, Ontario, and imposed sentence on November 7, 2007.
