KINGSWAY GENERAL INSURANCE COMPANY FINED $5,000 FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH A PROVINCIAL OFFICER ORDER

CORNWALLOn December 3, 2008, Kingsway General Insurance Company pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a Provincial Officer Order by failing to submit a required report to the ministry, contrary to the Environmental Protection Act. The Provincial Officer Order had been issued to a transportation company to clean up a spill of aviation oil caused by a collision.  As the provider of collision and liability insurance for the transportation company, Kingsway General Insurance Company assumed responsibility for complying with all the items of the Order, including submitting a report to the ministry verifying that the site had been remediated to acceptable levels.  The company was fined $5,000 plus a victim fine surcharge, and was given 45 days to pay.
