ST. CATHARINES — Westbrook Greenhouses Limited has been fined $12,500 plus a victim fine surcharge, after pleading guilty on December 5, 2008 to discharging a contaminant into a creek which may impair the quality of the watercourse, contrary to the Ontario Water Resources Act. The company was given six months to pay the fine.
The Court heard that Westbrook Greenhouses Limited operates a greenhouse facility in Beamsville, adjacent to Beamsville Creek. The company used a product called Kool Ray to coat the roof of the greenhouse. Excess material was discharged via drains into the creek.
Westbrook Greenhouses Limited was charged following an investigation by the Ministry of the Environment’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
Gillette Farms Inc. and A.L. Blair Construction were charged following an investigation by the Ministry of the Environment’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
