NEWMARKET — Central Canadian Glass Ltd. has been fined $18,000 plus a victim fine surcharge, after pleading guilty on December 12, 2008 to depositing waste on land that is not an approved waste disposal site, contrary to the Environmental Protection Act. The company was given one year to pay the fine.
The Court heard that Central Canadian Glass Ltd. operates a glass manufacturing and cutting factory in Vaughan. Ministry staff found a white fluid discharging from a sewer outfall into Black Creek. The liquid was traced back to the Central Canadian Glass Ltd. facility, where diluted cutting fluid was pumped into the storm sewer catch basin on its property.
Central Canadian Glass Ltd. was charged following an investigation by the Ministry of the Environment’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
Central Canadian Glass Ltd. has paid over $9,900 to the City of Vaughan for the clean-up effort.
