OWEN SOUND — On September 18, 2009, Nicholas Ticknovich pleaded guilty to four violations related to the operation of a fish farm.
Mr. Ticknovich is the President of Sturdell Industries which owns Trillium Springs Fish Farm in the Township of Chatsworth. Mr. Ticknovich is the only operator of the facility. A ministry inspection revealed that the existing Certificate of Approval did not include additional tanks that had been constructed on site. In addition, the Provincial Officer observed that the facility’s existing Permit to Take Water had expired. A Director’s Order was issued requiring Mr. Ticknovich to retain the services of a consultant to submit a completed application form for an industrial sewage Certificate of Approval, as well as a completed application form for a Permit to Take Water. The Order was not complied with.
Mr. Ticknovich was also convicted of using or operating a modified sewage works for which an approval had not been granted, and taking more than 50,000 litres of water in a day without a permit.
Mr. Ticknovich was charged following an investigation by the ministry’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
Nicholas Ticknovich was fined $3,000 plus a victim fine surcharge and was given thirty days to pay the fine. Sturdell Industries Limited operating as Trillium Springs Fish Farm and Mr. Ticknovich have since obtained the required Permit to Take Water and amended Certificate of Approval.
