OTTAWA — On September 24, 2009, Newalta Corporation formerly known as Newalta Industrial Services Inc. pleaded guilty to two violations for failing to comply with conditions regarding its waste management system.
In July 2007, ministry officials became aware that the company was involved in transporting loads of non-hazardous waste between Ontario and Quebec. Ministry records confirmed that one of the companies hauling waste for Newalta Corporation was not authorized and no Certificate of Approval had been issued. Newalta Corporation had not reported the additional vehicles to the ministry, and was charged following an investigation by the ministry’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch.
Newalta Corporation was fined $2,500 plus a victim fine surcharge and was given ninety days to pay.
