Licensed Laboratories
The Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002 (SDWA) and the Drinking Water Testing Services Regulation (O. Reg. 248/03) require any laboratory that performs drinking water testing to obtain a licence effective October 1, 2003. In addition, the SDWA requires owners and operating authorities of drinking water systems regulated under the Drinking Water Systems Regulation (O. Reg. 170/03) to use a licensed laboratory for drinking water testing.
The following laboratories are licensed to perform drinking water testing under Part VII of the SDWA for the classes of parameters indicated. All regulated parameters under the SDWA and most parameters required under Certificates of Approval have been divided into one of the five licence classes: Microbiological, Organic Chemical, Radioanalytical, Inorganic Chemical and Physical/Other.
All licensed laboratories in the province are listed. Note that some do not accept samples from outside clients (municipal laboratories, for example).

Special sample testing restrictions apply to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care - operated laboratories: Public Health Laboratories accept private citizen, single household well water samples and test regulated Ministry of Natural Resources (Provincial Parks) drinking water system samples and follow-up samples taken by Public Health Branch, Health Unit Inspectors only . The Ministries of Labour and Environment Laboratories do not accept samples directly from the general public but do accept samples from ministry staff for regulated and internal program purposes.

SCC/CALA Final Drinking Water Testing Audit Report
An *asterisk beside the licensed drinking water testing laboratory indicates that copies of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC)/Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA) Final Drinking Water Testing Audit Reports are available upon request from the public. A copy of these reports may be obtained by contacting the Ministry of the Environment’s Laboratory Licensing Coordinator at 416-235-6370. As reports become available for other licensed laboratories, they will be updated to the website.
These reports are as a result of Commissioner O’Connor’s Recommendation 43 in Part Two: Report of the Walkerton Inquiry which states that: The results of laboratory accreditation audits should be provided to the Ministry of the Environment and should be publicly available. Section 67 of the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002 now addresses this recommendation
