I operate, or work in, a laboratory that tests drinking water

In Ontario, laboratories that want to perform testing of Ontario drinking water must be licensed, accredited and inspected.

Getting your laboratory licensed

In order to conduct drinking water testing in Ontario, laboratories must be licensed by the Ministry of the Environment.

Prior to applying for a licence, your laboratory must be accredited to perform specific tests. Learn more about getting accredited below.

You must also notify the Ministry if you need to amend your existing licence.

If your laboratory is located outside of Ontario, you must apply for permission to test Ontario drinking water. You will also be required to complete the same licensing and inspection requirements as laboratories in Ontario. Once your laboratory meets these requirements, it can be placed on the Director’s List for Out-of-Province Eligible Laboratories.
