Becoming a drinking water operator

The first step to becoming a certified drinking water operator is to get your Operator-in-training (OIT) certificate. 

With an OIT certificate, you can work in a municipal drinking water system and gain the one-year experience that is needed to become a Class 1 operator.

An OIT certificate is valid for 16 months. You must pass the entry-level drinking water operator course, before your certificate can be extended.
