What do winners of the Minister’s Award receive?
Winners of the Minister’s Award receive:
- a Minister’s Award plaque
- a success story on the ministry’s website
- use of the award winner wordmark.
Honourable mentions receive:
- an honourable mention certificate
- a success story on the ministry’s website
- use of the honourable mention wordmark.
Can two or more individuals or groups submit a joint application?
Yes, but municipalities may only apply as part of a group that includes non-municipal applicants.
Why can municipalities only apply as part of a group that includes non-municipal applicants?
This award program recognizes that environmental successes are often a collaborative effort in which municipalities have a very significant role.
How many award winners are chosen each year?
The ministry chooses up to 6 winners and may choose 10-15 additional applications for honourable mention depending on the quantity and quality of applications. The ministry is not bound to choose any awards or honourable mentions in any given year or any category.
Is there an application fee?
No. There is no fee associated with an application.
Does the ministry consider an applicant’s record of compliance with environmental legislation?
The applicant must have a good environmental compliance record. The ministry will review the applicant’s compliance record as part of the review process. The ministry will exercise its judgment in this regard.
Why do applicants need to make declarations about taxes, labour and environmental laws?
The declaration is designed to help ensure the integrity of those receiving awards and honourable mention.
Tell me more about applications related to achieving compliance.
The primary intent of this program is to recognize actions that go beyond complying with environmental regulations. Unique activities or activities that demonstrate leadership or innovation to achieve compliance can also be considered for recognition.
I applied last year. Can I apply again this year?
Yes, with the following limitations:
- an applicant can only apply once per year
- recognition recipients from 2011 may apply for an award again in 2012
- award winning activities from 2011 may not be submitted again
