Background

General Mills is one of the world’s leading food companies, operating in more than 100 countries. It is known for brands such as Cheerios, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, Green Giant and Hamburger Helper.  General Mills Canada Corporation opened in 1954 with plants across the country. The Midland plant is located on the south shore of Georgian Bay.

The company recognizes the economic and environmental benefits of greening its operations. In the last few years, it has implemented initiatives to reduce its waste production, electricity consumption and water use. General Mills opened its first buildings that conformed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards in 2010.
