Sims Recycling Solutions is a global company that recycles electronics, such as computers, printers and fax machines. Sims recycles almost half a million tonnes of electronics at its facilities around the world, including those in Ontario, in Mississauga and Brampton.
The proper management of disposed electronics, or e-waste, results in the diversion of toxic substances, such as lead, cadmium and mercury from landfills.
Sims’ Mississauga facility is home to the company’s latest advances in recycling technology and is one of the largest electronics recycling centres in the world. The facility processes more than 100,000 tonnes of e-waste every year using sustainable recycling methods in which the electronics are broken down and hazardous components are removed. The re-useable materials, such as pure metals and plastics, are captured and re-introduced into manufacturing markets.
Through its recycling of e-waste, Sims re-generates resources such as steel, aluminum, copper and plastic. In doing so, Sims reduces the need for new materials in manufacturing — a more sustainable alternative.
The company strives to be an environmental leader in the global and community spheres. For the last four years Sims has been recognized as one of the most sustainable corporations in the world by the World Economic Forum.
The facility is powered by Bullfrog Power, a renewable energy provider, decreasing Sims’s overall energy footprint. Sims also works with teachers and students to increase awareness of electronic waste and the environment.
