Program or Service Description:
The Waste Management Projects Regulation (O. Reg. 101/07) requires that both public and private sector waste management projects be equally subject to the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA). The regulation designates certain waste management projects, exempts others, and exempts certain projects if they successfully complete the Environmental Screening Process (ESP). The level of assessment for each category is dependent on the anticipated environmental effects.
The public may request that a waste project subject to the ESP be elevated to an individual environmental assessment. Should a request be submitted, the Director has 30 days to make a decision on the submission.

- We will acknowledge the receipt of elevation requests within 15 business days of receipt
- If the Branch Director decides to refer the matter to mediation, then conduct and results of mediation are to be completed within 60 calendar days after appointment of a mediator's
- The Branch Director will review the mediation report and make a decision on the elevation request within 30 calendar days of receiving the report
- Feedback on the process, or any other inquiries, can be directed to the ministry's Public Information Centre and a response will be provided within 15 business days
