The ministry is committed to keeping the public and other stakeholders informed about environmental activities in Ontario communities and ensuring that dischargers within these communities follow provincial environmental laws. Posting Environmental Compliance Reports (ECR) helps achieve that goal. It is an important part of bringing transparency and accountability to the ministry's abatement and enforcement process.
The ECR website provides information on exceedances discharged to water and emissions to air from facilities regulated by the ministry. Information provided includes: the type of facility and contaminant; discharge/emission requirement details; the facility's remedial action; and the ministry's response to correct or prevent future exceedances.
Overall:
We are committed to the OPS service principles (i.e., accessible, responsive, reliable, caring, accountable; consistent, predictable, transparent, continuous improvement) and OPS common service standards (i.e., response times to general phone calls, mail, email, fax) as outlined in the ministry's service charter.
Program or Service-specific Standards:
- We commit to publicly posting Environmental Compliance Reports by December 31st each year, for incidents reported for the previous year
- We will respond to public inquiries within 15 business days
- We will respond to reports requiring feedback within 1 business day for phone calls and within 5 business days for feedback sent by correspondence through the Public Information Centre
- Feedback on the process, or any other inquiries, can be directed to the ministry's Public Information Centre and a response will be provided within 15 business days
