Minister Wilkinson congratulated the Green Communities’ Well Aware program this week for providing help to well owners on taking care of their wells, protecting their drinking water and our shared groundwater.

Joined by members of Green Communities and the Elora Environment Centre, Environment Minister John Wilkinson took part in an event to celebrate 10 years of the Well Aware program.

Supported by funding from the Ministry of the Environment, Well Aware delivers programs and drives positive actions focused on the basics of maintaining a well.

The program has been successfully reaching out to individual well owners and communities through forums, workshops and booklets such as “A Guide to Caring for your Well” — and through highly popular guided self-assessments of individual wells.

If you are a private well owner, clean, safe and healthy drinking water is in your hands. The Well Aware program helps interested well owners understand how to care and maintain their wells to ensure they have safe, clean water supplies.

Home visits by Well Aware advisors help guide well owners through a self-assessment of their own well that helps identify and address potential issues. Since 2001, Well Aware has helped more than 3,500 Ontarians gain confidence in the management of their wells and their ability to protect their family’s drinking water.
