Transition Period

The transition to the modernized Drive Clean program will start in late 2011. All Drive Clean facilities (light-duty and heavy-duty) will be required to purchase and be trained on the new Ontario test unit (OTU) by December 31, 2012. We will begin providing facilities with information on acquiring the new Ontario test unit in late 2011.

All light-duty facilities will be required to continue operating and maintaining the current Ontario test unit (including dynamometers) right up until December 31, 2012, in order to remain accredited. Light-duty facilities that become newly accredited during the transition period are subject to this requirement. On January 1, 2013, the transition period will end with full implementation of the on-board diagnostic test and the retirement of the dynamometer test.

During the transition period, training on dynamometers will continue to be available for new Drive Clean facility staff.
