Pesticides Allowed for Cosmetic Use

Under Ontario’s cosmetic pesticides ban, only biopesticides and certain lower risk pesticides - Class 11 - are allowed to be used for controlling weeds, insects and plant diseases on lawns and gardens.

Allowable biopesticides are those designated by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency. Lower risk pesticides have characteristics such as low toxicity to humans, minimal impact to the environment, and act in a non-toxic way in controlling intended pests.

Class 5 or Class 6 products that contain Class 11 pesticides are allowed for cosmetic use.

Class 5 or Class 6 products, such as rodenticides and insect and animal repellents, are also allowed for use under the ban.
