Maybe you've noticed people who aren't friendly to the environment. Many of these people simply don't know how to be kind to our planet.
You have the power to change this.
You can help teach your friends and family. Tell them what you do and why you do it. Explain why helping the environment is so important!
When you leave a room and shut off the lights, explain, "I turn off the lights every time I leave a room - even if I'm just leaving it for five minutes. Fuels are burned to create electricity, and when that happens, greenhouse gases are released into the air."
If you and your family are going somewhere that's just a 5-to-10-minute drive, suggest, "Why don't we walk there instead of taking the car? We'll save money on gas, get some exercise, and we won't put harmful pollutants into the air we breathe."
Type up a list of everything that can be recycled and composted where you live (or just go online and see if your city or town's website already has a list). E-mail it to your friends and family, and write something like, "Betcha didn't know how much stuff we can recycle and compost!"
And most importantly, tell everyone about this website! Introduce them to Eric, Maya, Katie and Jay - our Enviro-Heroes (just like you're going to be!).
Then you and your friends can submit your artwork and ideas to us, and check out each others' postings!
Film your own commercial about helping the environment! Ask your teacher if you can share your commercial with your class.
Make an environmentally friendly t-shirt with green tips on it. You can use fabric paint, fabric markers or t-shirt transfers to decorate the shirt. Everywhere you go you'll be sharing green ideas with others!
Ask your family to help you organize a neighbourhood Clean-Up Day. Encourage all your neighbours to come outside and clean up waste found on the sidewalk or in the park. Afterwards, you can celebrate with a neighbourhood picnic or a barbecue. Remember to use re-usable or recyclable cups, plates and cutlery!
