Environmental Registry

When is an Environmental Registry posting required?

A posting on the environmental registry is required under the Environmental Bill of Rights Act to provide information to the public about government legislation, policies, programs and some approvals.

Proposed declaration orders and designation regulations under the Environmental Assessment Act are generally required to be posted for public comment and decision on the Environmental Registry. A posting may not be required if there are no environmental effects associated with a proposal or in cases of emergency.

Environmental assessments (EAs) and terms of reference proposals including class EAs are not required to be posted on the Environmental Registry but are posted on the ministry's website and involve other methods of consultation.

Although not required, some provincial ministries provide information postings on the Environmental Registry for projects subject to the Environmental Assessment Act in addition to other public consultation required.
