Ontario's Clean Water Act helps protect drinking water from source to tap with a multi-barrier approach that stops contaminants from entering sources of drinking water - lakes, rivers and aquifers.
Ontario's Clean Water Act:
The Clean Water Act also introduced the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program which offered financial assistance to farmers, landowners, and small or medium businesses for activities that reduce threats to local drinking water sources.
The Source Protection Municipal Implementation Fund will provide $13.5M to 189 municipalities through grants ranging from $18,000 to $100,000. The one-time grants are given to small, rural municipalities to help offset some of the start-up costs they will incur as they prepare to implement their drinking water source protection plans.
