The Moira River
The Moira River runs through the middle of the Deloro mine site. It enters the property along the northern boundary, leaves the property at the southwest corner, and drains into Lake Ontario at Belleville. The Moira River system has historically been affected by contaminants from the Deloro mine site- the result of 100 years of mining, refining and manufacturing activities.
The Moira River Study
The Moira River study is one of two major off-site assessments the ministry conducted. This study was finalized following a period of public consultation in 2000.
Moira River facts
Watershed: drains 2745 square kilometres and empties into the bay of Quinte at Belleville.
Tributaries: four main tributaries, the Skootamatta, Black and Clare rivers, and Parks Creek
Largest lakes: Skootamatta, Lingham, Moira and Stoco.
Physiographic regions: in the north, Precambrian. In the south paleozoic limestones
