Individuals and organizations across the province volunteer to help support the Lake Partner Program.

In early winter, each volunteer receives a kit that contains the materials needed to take water samples and measure water clarity in the upcoming sample season.

The number of samples a volunteer must take depends on whether his/her lake is on the Canadian Shield.

Volunteers are asked to make a minimum of six (monthly) water clarity observations using a Secchi disk.

Volunteers send their samples and measurements to the Dorset Environmental Science Centre (postage is paid by the ministry).
