To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, please ensure that you do not include your names, your employer’s name, your phone number, address or email address or any other personally identifiable information about you or any third party in your post.  Posts that include any type of personally identifiable information about yourself or any third parties will be removed by the Ministry.

Please note that by posting comments on the Ontario Ministry Facebook Page, you are consenting to the collection of your personal information, via your personal opinions, by the Ministry.

Ontario is committed to respecting your privacy and protecting your personal information.  Personal Information is collected in accordance with s. 4(1)(f) of the Environmental Protection Act, c. E.19 the purpose of obtaining feedback on Ministry programs and policies and will be used to assess public views on the environment.

b) Ministry Monitoring of Facebook Page

The Ministry will monitor its Facebook Page during Business Days from 9:00am-5:00pm.

Note that Business Days means: any working day, Monday to Friday inclusive, but excluding statutory and other holidays, namely: New Year's Day; Family Day; Good Friday; Easter Monday; Victoria Day; Canada Day; Civic Holiday; Labour Day; Thanksgiving Day; Remembrance Day; Christmas Day; Boxing Day and any other day which the Province of Ontario has elected to be closed for business;

Disagreements and constructive arguments are welcome as part of the discussions; however, inappropriate, abusive, discriminatory, offensive or unlawful comments are prohibited.

c) Ministry requirements

The Ministry:

  1. requires that any user who posts comments on the Ministry’s Facebook Page (“User”) has a valid Facebook account for every comment;
  2. will review posted comments, but cannot commit to replying to all comments and/or moderating all discussion on this Facebook Page;
  3. expects posted comments to be relevant to the section they are posted to.
  4. reserves the right to edit or remove comments, in whole or in part, for any reason, including comments that:
    • express racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting, or life-threatening messages;
    • are aggressive, coarse, violent, obscene, or pornographic in tone
    • are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, or otherwise abusive;
    • are not sent by the author; put forward for advertising purposes and/or are written in a language other than English or French;
    • are unintelligible, or otherwise inconsistent with the purposes of this Facebook Page; or
    • are repetitive or spamming of threads

Any User acting contrary to these rules may be temporarily or permanently excluded from the wall of the Ministry’s Facebook Page.

3) Terms of Consent and Release

The User also agrees to the following:

a) Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Ontario (“Ontario government”) and all of her Ministers, related entities, agencies,  officers, agents, appointees, employees, directors, employees, representatives, volunteers are not liable from any and all claims, expenses, demands, actions, causes of action and for any and all liability howsoever caused and by whomever caused, arising out of, but not limited to, the publication, reproduction, distribution, modification, collection, disclosure of the comments made by Users of the Ministry’s Facebook Page;

b) The User hereby holds harmless and agrees to indemnify the Ontario government for any liability of any injury or damage to any third party arising out of the publication, modification, collection, disclosure or any other use of his/her comments posted on Ministry’s Facebook Page;

c) The User acknowledge that the Ontario government has no control over and is not responsible for any use or misuse including, but not limited, to any alteration, modification, reuse or distortion of the comments posted on the Ministry’s Facebook Page that may occur or be caused by third parties;

d) The User agrees to forever waive any and all rights including, but not limited to, any rights he/she may have in relation to the dissemination/publication of the their comments posted on the Ministry’s Facebook Page in various contexts or the right to control the use or distribution of their comments posted on the Ministry’s Facebook Page; and,

e) The User agrees that their comments posted on the Ministry’s Facebook Page may be used by the Ontario government without any acknowledgment or payment to him/her
