Minister Bradley delivered opening remarks to the plenary session of the Ontario Municipal Water Association (OMWA) & Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) Joint Annual Conference, the premier conference for the public water supply sector in Ontario.
The Minister thanked the OWWA and the OMWA for their dedication to protecting and preserving Ontario’s water from source to tap. These two important organizations along with the Ontario government have worked together to ensure Ontario’s drinking water is among the safest and best protected in the world. The Minister cited a recent survey in which 91 per cent of Ontarians said they have confidence in the province’s tap water in its safety and quality.
The Minister also spoke to Ontario’s ongoing efforts to improve and protect its water. He encouraged the assembled expertise of Ontario’s public water supply authorities and the professionals on the front lines who deliver safe, sufficient, and sustainable drinking water to continue to contribute to the sector through their innovation and commitment as water is important to Ontario’s economy and quality of life.
The Minister closed his remarks by drawing attention to the proposed Great Lakes Protection Act. The Great Lakes is the largest surface freshwater resource in the world, however, they are under stress from things like pollution, invasive species and climate change. The act will allow Ontarians to become Great Lakes Guardians.
