Company Fined $10,000 For Well Violation

LondonA company was fined $10,000 for engaging in the business of constructing a well by replacing a pump without having a well contractor license.

“Environmental protection legislation protects communities and the environment. Breaking these rules can result in serious penalties and is an offence the Ministry takes very seriously,” Environment Minister Jim Bradley.

The landlord of a rented home contacted Hyde Park Plumbing & Heating Limited to investigate why there was no water supply to a house located in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. The company dispatched a plumber who discovered that the well pump had failed and replaced the pump. Later, a spill of gasoline and oil from a motorcycle occurred close to the well and contaminated it. The Middlesex-London Health Unit was contacted and a joint inspection with the ministry found numerous deficiencies and determined that the company was responsible for engaging in the business of constructing a well without having been issued a well contractor license.

The company was fined $10,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $2,500 and was given 90 days to pay the fine.
