Company And Employee Fined $30,000 for Permit to Take Water Violations

Stratford – A company and employee were fined $30,000 for failing to comply with surface and ground water permit to take water and for providing false information to the ministry.

“Charges and convictions remind us all that we need to take care not to damage the environment as we go about our business,” Environment Minister Jim Bradley.

Mitchell Golf & Country Club Inc. is located in the Municipality of West Perth.  Alfred John Schmoelzl is an employee and responsible for the club’s irrigation.  The company was issued a permit to take water from the North Thames River in West Perth.  The ministry concluded, based on water level data supplied by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority that water had been taken from the river during dry periods, when the company was not permitted to do so.  Water records provided to ministry staff during inspections did not account for these water takings and were found to be misleading and false.

The company and Mr. Schmoelzl were fined a total of $30,000 plus victim fine surcharges of $7,470 and were given nine months to pay the fine.
