Cornwall – A resident was fined $1,000 for operating a waste disposal site or waste management system for the incineration of waste without a ministry approval.
“The Province will prosecute those whose actions contravene Ontario’s environmental laws and damage our shared resources,” Environment Minister Jim Bradley.
Barry Forbes owns property located in the Township of North Dundas. The township issued Mr. Forbes a letter to clean up his property in accordance with a by-law. The township issued Mr. Forbes a burn permit to burn wood and brush at the property. In response to a complaint from the township, the ministry conducted an inspection of the property and confirmed the incineration of waste including tires and other wastes that would cause offsite impacts to the environment.
Mr. Forbes was fined $1,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $125 and given thirty days to pay the fine.
