Bancroft – A resident was fined $2,000 for establishing and operating a waste management system without ministry approval.
“Environmental protection legislation protects communities and the environment. Breaking these rules can result in serious penalties and is an offence the Ministry takes very seriously,” Environment Minister Jim Bradley.
David Stanley Walker is the owner of a property in Bancroft. The town issued a demolition permit for a two storey structure located on the property. Once the structure had been demolished, Mr. Walker hired contractors to haul the waste to a private property located on Lakeview Road in Bancroft, where it was disposed of and burned. The private property was not approved as a waste disposal site.
Mr. Walker was fined $2,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $500 and was given six months to pay the fine.
