Toronto – A company was fined $25,000 for failing to comply with a ministry approval for a waste disposal site.
“Polluters should be aware that the ministry’s Investigations and Enforcement Branch will vigorously pursue charges when our environmental laws are broken,” Environment Minister Jim Bradley.
Waste Excellence Corporation operated a waste disposal site in Vaughan. The site operated under a ministry approval that included a condition that prohibited the company from receiving waste at the site if certain named companies or individuals possessed or had any direct or indirect connection with the site or its operations. The ministry received a letter from the company confirming that there was no connection to these certain individuals. The ministry later received an envelope that revealed a connection to a family associated as a beneficial owner with the site, contravening the ministry approval.
The company was fined $25,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $6,250 and was given 60 days to pay the fine.
