Water covers more than two-thirds of the earth’s surface and yet only a small percentage is freshwater for drinking. In fact, if the world’s entire water supply was 100 litres, then only one teaspoon of it is fresh drinking water.

Water is essential for life and health. We need water for farming, industry, bathing and cleaning.

Ontarians are among the highest water users in the world. The average residential water user in Ontario uses 225 litres of water per day. In comparison, many European countries such as Germany and the U.K. use less than 150 litres of water per capita per day.

 

 

Do It  Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth, washing your hands, or lathering up in the shower.




Safe drinking water

We rely on our drinking water. We use it every day, for cooking, for drinking, even for mixing baby formula. However, some commercials for water filtration systems imply that our water isn’t safe for drinking, and that it contains bacteria or lead. What’s the truth? Is our water safe to drink?
