The Canada-U.S. Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement

The health of the Great Lakes is important to both Canada and the United States. The governments of Canada and the U.S. have worked together to restore and protect the lakes under the Canada-U.S. Great Lakes Water Quality Agreements (GLWQA) since 1972. The first COA was signed in 1971 to ensure a domestic framework was in place for the GLWQA.

Canada and the U.S. signed an amended GLWQA on Friday, September 7, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
