Ontario's Blue Box system is one of the oldest and most comprehensive curbside recycling systems in North America. In 2010, about 887,000 tonnes of household printed paper and packaging – such as newspapers, plastic water bottles, glass containers, and aluminum cans – were kept out of landfill. That represents about 67 per cent of Ontarians’ blue box materials.

Blue Box programs are run by municipalities and are partly funded by industry through Stewardship Ontario.
