Only licensed well contractors can legally engage in the business of well construction. Licensed well contractors must employ licensed well technicians, of the correct class, to construct, repair, or abandon wells.
An unlicensed person may work on a well if a licensed well technician, of the correct class, is supervising on site.
An unlicensed person who has an assistant well technician identification card may work on a well if the supervising well technician is within an hour of the site.

Licences are valid until March 31 each year following the year of issue.

Assistant Well Technicians
Well contractors must employ an unlicensed person for a minimum of four months before applying for (or renewing) an identification card for that person. Cards are valid for 36 months and only when in the employ of the well contractor who made the application.
