Facilities’ toxics reduction reporting

Informing Ontarians about the toxic substances being used, created and released around them, as well as the actions facilities are taking to reduce them, is an important component of the program.

The Toxics Reduction Act requires facility owners and operators to provide the public with information submitted in annual toxics reduction reports. That information should be available on the Internet and upon request. The Ministry of the Environment suggests posting this information to the Internet soon after the annual report is submitted.

This made-in-Ontario approach will assist industries in voluntarily reducing the toxic substances they use and create, and provide useful information to Ontarians.

The first annual toxics reduction reports were due by June 2011.

The first toxic substance reduction plans and plan summaries are due by December 31, 2012.
