Got a post-secondary degree in science and looking to find a job in the environmental sector? Or looking for a career change that puts you in the environmental field?
If you’re coming out of an undergraduate program in science, or you’re looking to get job-specific training in the environmental field, many colleges in Ontario have certificate or additional qualification programs that can train you to work as a wastewater technician, environmental analyst or other jobs in the field.
For more information and a complete list of the programs and schools, please visit the Ontario Colleges Environmental Programs page
For people looking for a career change, you might want to check out the province’s Second Career Program, which helps people find a new career. Some of the career training that qualifies for funding includes biological, chemical, forestry, and land survey technologists and technicians.
Looking for an environmental job in government? If you’re a recent university or college grad, check out Ontario's Youth and New Professionals Secretariat. The Secretariat posts general information about working for the Ontario government, including opportunities for summer employment, and internships and co-ops. In particular, for college or university graduates, there is a10-month internship with the Ministry of Natural Resources that gets young professionals into nature-based jobs.
The Ministry of the Environment also has science-based opportunities for people who are interested in working for the environment. Check out our four-year Environment Engineer Internship Program. It’s for recent university graduates in chemical, civil, environmental or mechanical engineering. The program provides non-licensed individuals with the work experience required to obtain their P.Eng license.
