Incident Resolution:
Following the repair of the watermain break and the results of bacteriological
sampling, on April 4, 2007, the Northwestern Health Unit was satisfied
that the drinking water system was capable of providing safe potable
water and therefore rescinded the Boil Water Advisory.

Resampling details and results:
Following the completion of the work, the chlorine residual was increased
and the system flushed. Two consecutive samples did not indicate
microbiological contamination.
MOE Role:
Ministry staff worked closely with the owner of the system and the
local Health Unit to protect public health, and to ensure that a
safe potable water supply is maintained for the users of this water
system.
Background (if there is a history of the site):
On March 25, 2007, a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) was issued by the
Northwestern Health Unit to the Township of Atikokan, after a
watermain break in the distribution system required that sections of watermains
be isolated to determine the location of the break.
