TORONTO – N & N Auto Repairs Inc. of Toronto was fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to six charges relating to Ontario’s Drive Clean program.
N & N Auto Repairs pled guilty to three counts of permitting the operation of motor vehicles that did not comply with prescribed emission standards, a violation of Section 9(13.1) of Regulation 361/98. The company also pled guilty to three counts of submitting false or misleading information to an agent of the Ministry of the Environment, which contravenes Section 184(2) of the Environmental Protection Act.
The company was charged after Ministry of the Environment officials investigated reports that vehicles that had passed the Drive Clean test at N & N Auto Repairs failed to meet emission standards. The investigation revealed that N & N had substituted the information of a vehicle that had passed the Drive Clean test with that of other vehicles.
The company was fined $5,000 for each charge, totaling $30,000, and a $7,500 victim surcharge. The case was heard in Toronto by Justice of the Peace Lewin.
N & N Auto Repairs had its Drive Clean activities suspended in June of 2002.
