NEW “GREEN FACTS” ON WELL SAFETY AVAILABLE

TORONTO – The Ministry of the Environment has posted four new “Green Facts” information brochures on its web site for members of the public interested in the requirements of Ontario’s Wells Regulation. The “Green Facts” sheets have been updated to reflect changes to the Wells Regulation (O.Reg. 903) introduced earlier this year.

The “Green Facts” sheets are entitled:

  • Important Facts About Water Well Construction
  • The Protection of Water Quality in Drilled Wells
  • The Protection of Water Quality in Bored and Dug Wells
  • The Protection of Water Quality in Jetted or Driven Point Wells

Copies of these fact sheets can be obtained through the Ministry of the Environment web site at http://www.ene.gov.on.ca or by calling the Ministry’s Public Information Centre at 1-800-565-4923.

The requirements of the amended Wells Regulation will help protect the quality of groundwater for more than three million Ontarians who rely on private and municipal wells.

The Ministry of the Environment is working with the Ontario Ground Water Association to provide every licensed well contractor and technician in the province with a comprehensive guide to the amended regulation. Well owners who wish to receive a copy of the guide may order one by calling the ministry’s Public Information Centre.
