Interns are provided with two rotational assignments (one year each) in two different ministries. The OIP is centrally managed by the Youth and New Professionals Secretariat in the Ministry of Government Services. • Hands-on experience in different job assignments
  • An opportunity to explore your career options while building your skills and portfolio

Engineer Internship Program (EIP)

The EIP is a four-year development program for recent university graduates in chemical, civil, environmental or mechanical engineering. The program provides non-licensed individuals with the work experience required to obtain their P.Eng. licence. The EIP offers a multidisciplinary learning experience through four to six rotational assignments (6 to 12 months each) in various branches of the Ministry of the Environment. The EIP was designed and is implemented by the Ministry of the Environment.

Co-op Program

It is the practice of the Ministry to hire university/college co-op students for four month work terms as part of formal co-operative educational training programs. However, co-op placements are not coordinated centrally through one office such as the Human Resources Branch. Typically, a Ministry manager works directly with the Co-op Program Coordinator at a college/university to arrange the employment of a co-op student. This process can be initiated by either the Ministry or a university/college. Selection of candidates is usually made jointly by the manager and the university/college.

Names and addresses of managers can be obtained online through the Ontario Government Directory at http://www.pace.gov.on.ca. Select “Services and Offices Directory” and browse for “Environment”.
