Summer Experience ProgramEach year, exciting summer employment opportunities are made available through the Summer Experience Program (SEP). This year, 42 of the positions were within the Ministry of the Environment. These positions were advertised through the Government of Ontario’s centralized job website, www.gojobs.gov.on.ca, under the “Youth Employment” link. Résumés and covering letters were to be directed to the "contact person" listed in the online job ad. SEP jobs are posted within the first few weeks of April. The closing date for most application varies. Applicants may be hired after May 31st, but the majority of summer jobs will be filled before that date.
Salary is $8.75 per hour. The period of employment will be seven weeks in length, will occur between May 1st and August 31st, and will consist of a thirty to forty hour workweek.
Ontario-Québec Summer Student Job Exchange ProgramPlease note: The application deadline for this program was January 29, 2008 The Ontario-Québec Summer Student Job Exchange Program promotes cooperation and exchanges in educational and cultural areas between the two provinces. In addition, it provides university students of both provinces the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the other province's culture, improve their second language skills, and benefit from a worthwhile work experience. The program offers both the students and participating communities the chance to experience and to examine another culture. Students are selected and assigned to a position in early April. The program runs from May to August (13 weeks).
Previous participants may re-apply, however, priority will be given to first time participants. Québec students will be paid at an hourly rate of $10.00.
Regular Summer Student HiringIn addition to the Summer Experience Program and Ontario-Québec Exchange Program, the Ministry may hire students directly at the Branch/Region level. Generally these positions are advertised through school placement offices or at local Human Resources Development Canada offices. To apply for any possible positions it is best to send a résumé/covering letter to the manager of the Branch/Region you are interested in. Names and addresses of managers can be obtained through the Ontario Government Directory/KWIC Index available at any public library or government office or online at http://www.infogo.gov.on.ca.
