Southwest/Central Groundwater Chemistry Study

The Ambient Chemical Characterizing of Regional Aquifers within Southwestern and Central Ontario study is led by Upper Thames River Conservation Authority. The conservation authority received $474,472 from the MOE for the study. The purpose of the study is to assess the relationships of water quality, and contrast individual naturally occurring inorganic and organic parameters with the geology along groundwater flow paths. The work will include:

  • working with an established database structure for water quality parameter from municipal well sampling;
  • identification and collection of relevant raw groundwater quality data within the study area;
  • populating and using the database;
  • analyzing the data for statistical indicators of the quality of the resource, which may include groundwater origin/pathways, natural water quality, anthropogenic impacts;
  • digital geospatial and terrain mapping;
  • generate water quality mapping;
  • metadata directory.

The following municipalities and regions are included in the study area: Brant, Bruce, Chatham-Kent, Dufferin, Durham, Elgin, Essex, Grey, Haldimand, Halton, Hamilton, Huron, Kawartha, Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk, Northumberland, Oxford, Peel, Perth, Peterborough, Simcoe, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington and York.
